The Bertie Bassett Skirt

Hey Sweeties,

Check out my new sweetie!

Apols for the gaping space between beginning this blog and the next post.  I'm characteristically super busy at the moment and I'm feeling slightly overwhelmed.  That said though I will be attempting to blog regularly in the future.

Now the explanation is over on with the tale of the Bertie Bassett skirt.  I designed the pattern for this skirt in my beginner's pattern cutting course.

This was taken on my Mac webcam because Aymi D (she made my tashtastic logo too) wasn't on hand for photo duty but I caught up with her at a later date for the following photo shoot.

There are many things I love about this skirt including the fact that the shape gives me a bit of much needed booty ;-)

But what I really love and how it gets the name of Bertie Bassett is the lining.

This skirt is the first thing I've ever lined and my first attempt at adding an invisible zip both of, which went reasonably smoothly.  I had the hot pink gorgeousness in my stash ever since I took an A line skirt making course.  The plan was to line an electric blue A line but my creativity ran wild in the workshop and I ended up instead with the sun shines out of my ass skirt but that's another post.

You would be forgiven for thinking but hmmm I'm sure that design is a Jenny.  Aha you would be right  in your assumption.  When I saw various versions of the Jenny including Gertie's tangerine dream and Tilly's maple leaf marvel I thought dang I need this pattern and then I had an epiphany.  I thought rather than buy it I would design the pattern as my final project on the fabulous Kat's pattern cutting course so I could hopefully get it to fit like a glove.

There you go that is the tale of the Bertie Bassett skirt and even if I do say so myself it's a near perfect fit.  The only things I will tweak for the next one and there will be a next one because I'm in love with this pattern is to taper the waistband for a little more cinch and the bottom for a bit more a of wiggle.

Well I'm off to put my feet up and have a well earned Babycham in one of my new glasses that a lovely lady on the course gave me.

Until next time bottoms up!

Miss D
